Video compression guide
Viddash creates one or more smaller versions by calculating the bitrate available for each target size. A realistic target preserves more detail; an aggressive target saves more space but increases the chance of softness, blocking, or banding.
Start with the actual upload or attachment requirement, then avoid going much lower than necessary. An 8 MB target is useful for strict attachments, while 25 MB or 50 MB leaves more bitrate available for motion and fine detail.
H.264 is the compatibility choice for browsers, phones, social platforms, and editors. H.265 is more efficient and can look better at a low bitrate, but recipients using older software may not be able to play it.
96 kbps is often adequate for speech, 128 kbps is a balanced default, and 192 kbps preserves more music detail. A higher audio bitrate leaves slightly less of the selected file-size budget for video.

Use a moderate target size, keep H.264 for compatibility, and avoid reducing the file far below its original size. Larger reductions require a lower bitrate and make compression artifacts more likely.
H.264 plays on more devices and platforms. H.265 can produce a smaller file at similar visual quality, but older browsers, devices, and editing apps may not support it.
Viddash calculates a video bitrate from the duration, target size, and selected audio bitrate. The result should be close, but container overhead and the source content can cause a small difference.
